Re: MsGoldGirl
I agree and have thought that for a long time it was like an unwritten rule that most YTers spoke highly of Kristin Gehm.... not sure if its pity, or hopes that they will be the next on her list of expensive gift giving... ya know... those suck up bribe kinda gifts that Kristin loves to send other YTers.... Lately tho the one who seems to be Kristin's YT body guard has been MsKristinn321... man she is always jumping down subbies throats if the least amount of shade is thrown Kristin Gehm's way... oh and K321 also did a RAVE review of the KGB eye shadow palette Gehm did with that no name brand Camp Cosmetics as did several other YTers(rave about it).... no way in hell was that palette worth the price tag it had on it yet those other YTers raved on and on about it..... Kristin Gehm has made her way around YT "befriending" other beauty gurus until they see how over bearing and pushy she is and they distance themselves from her. Her latest was Laura Vitale...pushing herself on them to stay in their new home for a mini vacation.... and that did not seem to go well at the end and the reason I say all this is because shortly before the visit to the Vitales, Kristin Gehm and Marnie had started talking, Skyping, Voxing and even did a sort of collab on a sports team eye look and then Gehm sent Marnie those famous expensive pizzas as a surprise for her birthday.... I've said a few times, Gehm is moving in on her next YT "friendship" and that is good Ole MsGoldgirl....but Marnie with her bitchy ways I don't think will put up with Gehm for long at all.... only IF something is in it for her.... Gehm and Marnie seem to be two of a kind in a way.... thinking their shit don't stink and bitchy and rude as hell to some subbies so it'll be interesting to see where this leads~fiercelyprivate wrote:Interesting theory! And I totally agree...I clicked on Kristin's channel once or twice after Marnie wouldn't stop talking about her and found myself puzzled by the disproportionate (as you said) amount of praise considering what my eyes were seeing and ears were hearing I couldn't quite comprehend it. I'd put Kristin Gehm just barely above MrstheDoll (is that her name...?). I do find sometimes that people become over the top in their praise of something or someone when they're uncomfortable about it and are trying to side step the giant elephant in the room. They over-compensate. So your theory makes sense. I just don't understand why anyone (Marnie included) feels the NEED to acknowledge Kristin at all. It's not like every YTer has to acknowledge every other YTer. Just say nothing! Who cares if Kristin feels dissed? But Marnie is a social climber...she had to have believed there is something in it for her to be-friend Kristin. I am guessing she believes they share a demographic and is trying to cash in on those.VanessaVanity wrote:I just feel like it's an unwritten Youtube beauty guru rule-'be extra nice to Kristin Gehm." Maybe because I always see her given a disproportionate amount of praise from other fairly successful Youtubers like Marnie. The reality is that Kristin is morbidly obese, has quite an unfortunate looking face, and is boring. Yet she gets a lot of unwarranted compliments because, imo, people feel pressured to be overly nice to the point of being fake lest Kristin think she's being dissed. I could be wrong but I doubt it. Her vlogs are a mixture of manic behavior and coma inducing-dullness. Her beauty videos, while sometimes informative, certainly shouldn't have so many comments calling her "beautiful" "gorgeous" "fierce" etc. yet there they are, and Marnie's right in there with them (to be fair to Marnie I never saw any fake compliments on K's appearance, but I doubt she really thinks Kristin is anything special like she claims to).fiercelyprivate wrote:I don't watch Kristin at all but know of her through Marnie. Why do you say there is a certain pressure in their group to show her support? What kind of pressure? Curious!
I read somewhere on GG (forget where) that sometimes YTers pay other YTers for mentions. Not much different than product placement. Or perhaps they offer other incentives to each other...but nothing is as "organic" as it may seem. Not saying Kristin paid Marnie for mentions...but it just crossed my mind since we're on a somewhat related topic.

Expensive gift giving?! That explains the over the top endorsement then! Like I said I don't watch Kristin at all so didn't know she was doing this.

I really despise how they talk over each other. Her and Michael on the couch watching TV and she's talking over him, and I cannot understand what he is saying. How rude! Let the man finish his sentence before you jump in like you always do.

2 things: I would be so embarrassed to vlog in front of my husband. I would just feel so silly. Am I alone in this? my husband tells me when he is going #2 yet I would still feel like a fool. LOL.
The other thing is that I like that Michael isn't really very into being on camera. It is a trend that when beauty gurus turn to vlogging their husbands jump on the bandwagon because they see dollar signs...Benji, Jonathan Joly, Laura Vitale's husband, and most recently Alex Garza. Michael and Marnie don't really need the money, so that is probably part of why he isn't all into it, but I think it shows something good about his character.

No you are not alone. I would feel like a total idiot VLoging in front of any family member. These gurus think they are celebrities. geez

Re: MsGoldGirl
I don't understand Marnie's taste in lipsticks. Her favourite colour is the one that's the LEAST flattering on her. She seems to think she looks best in these awful lavendar coloured lipsticks which make her look cheap, hard and dated. How can she not look back while she's editing and see how much better she looks in the top photo?! Such a shame because I really do think she's very pretty. In my opinion, she looks better in practically every other colour BUT that (see her Clinique pop lipstick swatch video).
Thoughts?
She looks so beautiful and fresh-faced and youthful here. And she actually said she didn't like this lipstick!!

Re: MsGoldGirl
Totally agree! I thought that lipstick looked great on her. With the other lipsticks I wondered if the colors were showing up wrong on my computer lol I'm like why does she like those..? The cool pink/lavender colors aren't flattering on her. And I don't love the orangey-red she's been wearing either.

Yes! I thought the same thing. Those lavender shades look so dated and make her skin look awful.

Re: MsGoldGirl
I actually don't think that Joe Vitale and Laura need the money either. I feel as though he was the tech guy and actually likes doing it as well as editing Laura's videos. I feel like it was always done together as far as Laura & Joe is concerned and without Joe, Laura wouldn't really be able to do it unless she hired someone. It would be too much with her Cooking Show, Beauty Channel, TV and books..That's my take on it. I think Joe's family business is lucrative.PrncssProtnPowdr wrote:2 things: I would be so embarrassed to vlog in front of my husband. I would just feel so silly.
