Check These Channels Out (No Chatter)

Post by Saffity »

Here is a place where we can post smaller costube or costube adjacent channels that we think others should check out. Post the channel link and possibly a small description or recommendation, but let's keep this thread clean and any chitchat about the various channels keep to the current costubers thread.

My beloved Elin Abrahamsson. Young, fresh, honest, doing and sewing working class Scandinavia, also dyeing. Absolute delight to watch and listen to.

I've got a fair few recommendations, so here goes (mostly small channels under 15k):

Active:
  • LizCapism, little bit of everything with some excellent playlists (including videos from other channels).
  • Scraps and Sequins, also a little bit of everything with a fair few time periods (including medieval). Her tutorials tend to be 6-10 minutes, for anyone who misses those more concise tutorials than some bigger costubers seem allergic to.
  • The Sewlo Artist, seems to firmly be a Vicwardian costuber, but she does a fair bit of altered menswear, which is always nice to see.
  • The Singer Sews was recommended on the other thread and, having checked out her channel yesterday, I wholeheartedly second that recommendation. Firmly medieval costuming, with a bit of a focus on bra/foundational garments - as someone with a larger bust myself, definitely planning on having a go at some of the things she's mentioned.
  • Ash L G also does a bit of everything, although they're much less focused on the Vicwardian period than other costubers on this list. They're also a LARPer, so that bleeds into the channel a bit (in a good way!).
  • Wearing History, lots of short and nice tutorials for vintage/historical sewists.
Inactive:
  • Little Crocus, last posted nine months ago, great tutorials on smocking and pleating.
  • Queen De Luxe, last posted three months ago, a mix of vintage and costuming - she participated in this year's FR contest as Mina Harker.
One final recommendation that isn't so much historical costuming as much as it is vintage - Stephanie Canada (an American). She's fun to follow as she also owns her own vintage shops and she'll regularly showcase vintage fabrics that are going on the online store. She can be a bit meme-y but I generally enjoy her content, she's got quite the personality.

All in all, they're a great bunch and hopefully I don't set off the spam filter with the amount of links I just added to this post!

Not an exhaustive list and I can't vouch 100% on quality or if the YouTuber isn't a shithead. So so so many Regency/Victorian/Edwardian era channels or just 'history bounding'. If it's not labeled then I got sick of putting the same thing down over and over again.
Also, GG limits urls per post to 5 and I'm not splitting this up into chunks of 5

A-D

Ankany
Annie Brahe - Viking dress/northern europe early medieval
Another Dream Gone West
aperfecttouch - An 'older' costumer but she has a ton of sewing and costume experience(read her blog), victorian/regency mostly but she dabbles in other time periods, I'm only mentioning production value because sometimes her vids are like 40% picture slideshows
Ash L G - Cosplay/LARP/historical inspired from most eras post 1200c, good sense of humor and sometimes chaotic but they seem (to me) to know what they're doing sewing-wise

Lately, I've been really enjoying Retro Claude's content, she has a really soothing presentation and makes mostly mid-20th century clothes, which is right up my alley.

So as mentioned in the main topic already I can compile a list of the smaller active costubers in the costube server.
This list will have a lot of overlap with ihearttrash, because as far as I could see that one was the CoSy contributers list? But with some more explanations and trying to give some variation in types of sewing and international costubers.

Kristine Vike: Lives in Norway, Cosy sewing content with an occasional deep dive into dress from that region.
GreenMartha: From France, mostly French spoken with English subtitles, actual Corset maker. Also posts journaling content.
MarisArmoury: From the Netherlands, larp, cosplay, leatherwork and multiple other crafts
WithMyHandsDream: From Finland, most comparable to Elin Abrahamsson
ShannonMakes: Lives in Denmark & US: Thrifts as much as possible, nice editing
Cxizent: Australian, leathercraft and witcher cosplays.
La Bricoleuse: Mostly Hats, actual educator on this topic and theatre work
Bookhoarding by Bianca: Historical and costume sewing, but with interesting, new ways to look at it.
Crafting with Casca: Lots of goth kind of content.
McNerdyMakes: Actively working with waste products and plastics, humoristic way of filming
The Halfling seamstress: lotr and historybounding content
JillianEve: Spinning and knitting
Rattle The Stars Studio: Cosplay and general sewing

Wow!! That list before!!
People seem to be RM fans, which is more vintage.. I like watching costumes but lately I find there’s not always a lot of sewing.. but in that theme and have sewing or styling- I like:

https://youtube.com/c/MissTammiSavoy - mostly cover music, some tutorials- but great to listen while sewing. ~3K

https://youtube.com/c/TheGlambassador - blog style, very friendly and always looks amazing! Good styling tips and camera/poses!~4K

https://youtube.com/c/WhatsSewingOn - vintage sewing, some costume, hauls, they sew using thrifted stuff. Cute dog, shows/talks about mistakes/fixes, feels like a friend. ~3K

https://youtube.com/c/LizVonVillas - vintage sewing, some costume, and beauty tutorials. I want her hair (without the work lol) ~8K

TheEyreEffect - plus size vintage, costume, beauty tutorials. I love her personality, she follows trending videos, I just want to be her friend. ~12K

https://youtube.com/c/RedRibbonSlimSewrena - vintage sewing, patterns, hauls. She honestly just seems like a genuinely nice person, very calming on camera, another person that feels like a friend. ~2K

willowforlife - vintage sewing, Disney, costumes. Really nice channel, she’s a bit shy (?) on camera, but she’s newer and her makes are lovely! ~1K

I have more to add but I’m looking forward to this page to see new channels and why people like them!

To revive this topic, any new channels people recommend? Or channels that have been going for a while but only recently caught your attention?

I'm totally obsessed with Seamstressed. So talented, great humor, relatable struggles. I've binged all her videos and can't wait for more. Release the bacon!! No HA - instead so many different projects, from Mrs. Maisel dresses over hats made from dog hair, being blocked by Lirika Matoshi for creating a black strawberry dress, Disney projects and Halloween stuff. Her dart moving makes me dizzy :respekt: And you get cute dog content and cats. And a great husband - what more can you ask for?

Some projects are insanely time consuming (I had to wonder how long Cathy would need for those  and how many videos we'd get from her) for example Taylor Swift's flower dress from the Grammy's or the Dior dress made from paper.

Today 8380 followers. Would love to see her grow!

Does anyone watch Emily, YouTube name The Sucky Seamstress? She's in Lady Rebecca's social circle, but their personalities seem completely different. Emily basically sits in front of her camera and just talks. She sometimes gets distracted by noises or her dog or a fly or random things. It can get pretty humorous. There is something very likeable about her.
