I haven't read them, I heard they're terribly written though.

Read the first one, it personally sickened me. It was poorly written and the story was awful.

I think the writing is horrible.

Also do not understand why people buy these books, when there are plenty of kinky sex stories on the Internet, for free, which are probably written much better than 50 Shades of SHAME.

Oh, but this reminds me, I saw a parody being done of 50 Shades, it's called "50 Shades of Earl Grey", read an excerpt and thought it was great. I took a picture of it on my phone, I'll post it later.

I bought the first book and stopped reading it half way because it just sickened me. The characters and the storyline was horribly written and if I heard the words 'inner goddess' once more I would of killed someone. I also don't think it's fair how this e.l james person is making millions from a fanfiction :/

I only made it through like a quarter of the first book. The writing is horrible, the story is way over the top, and the sex scenes made me laugh. I think the only thing the book is any good for is entertaining your friends while reciting the cheesy lines.

I've read the first one and I honestly didn't like it. The writing was horrible. "Oh my" The sex scenes were plain boring and again, poorly written. And the characters were straight out of Twilight, meaning there was no character development.

If you haven't read any smut on the internet, you're going to think it's awesome. Apparently, from what I've heard, it was actually Twilight fanfiction. Also, I heard it basically depicts rape. Then again, I haven't read it. And I probably won't, because there's better stories on the internet.

I've heard so many good things about them, but I personally couldn't stand them. I read all three, just to see if they lived up to my expectations, unfortunately they did not.
I would rather read random erotica online that has little to no storyline than read those books again haha
I'm glad I didn't waste money on them.

I bought it thinking that I was going to hate it and have been obsessed with reading erotic romance since. Sure it is written poorly, there are high school freshman who could write better, but I think the actual love story is nice. The sex and kinky stuff to me was just something extra, the love story between Christian and Ana is what made me love it. Since reading it I have started reading 50 Shades fanfiction, there are some really good stories. I have also read a few other erotic romance novels that I have bought and while they are good they are nowhere near what 50 shades was the first time I read it. Most of the others that I have read are more about the kinky sex and less about love, these I feel were a nice mixture of both. It may also help that I have never read the Twilight books so to me I can't pull out the similarities.

If those of you who bought it ended up hating it and couldn't finish the book I suggest reading the second one. Out of the 3 it was in my opinion the best of them. It has more of the love story in it then the sex. If anything the last book to me was the worst because it was just long and drawn out.

Isn't it Twilight fanfiction that got published? I despise Twilight (which I have read), and I really can't be bothered reading another poorly written series.

Plus everyone I know who has read it has defended it by saying that it doesn't matter that it's poorly written because it's "a good story". I disagree with that, since the quality of what I'm reading does matter to me. Plus there's tons of free, well written erotica on the internet so I definitely wouldn't pay for badly written Twilight porn.

It was twilight fan fiction when it was originally written, but she removed it from the site and changed things to make it the story that it is now. When many people hear twilight fanfiction they assume vampires and werewolves....there is none of that in the story. I haven't read the twilight books but have seen the movies, to me the only similarities would be how obsessive Chrisitian is over Ana and how obsessive Edward was with Bella.

For those that read the free online stories what are some of your favorites?

Let me share a few of my favorite lines from the books that I have found online:

"ā€œIā€™m losing all sense of self, every atom of my being concentrating hard on that small, potent powerhouse at the apex of my thighs.ā€"

"The muscles inside the deepest, darkest part of me clench in the most delicious fashion"

"Suck me, baby. His thumb presses on my tongue, and my mouth closes around him, sucking wildly. Holy fuck. This is wrong, but holy hell is it erotic"

Poorly written trash. Do not want. :bang:

Absolutely not. I refuse to read them. Back in March, my BOSS was reading it and talking about it and it scarred me. She's in her late 40's and it just freaked me out that she was talking about that shit. Then I had a few girls in my class that told me they were obsessed with it.

I never understood the hype. It never appealed to me. Ever.

Yeah, I'd rather read real smut online, honestly. My sister bought the first book and I skimmed through a few pages - the sex scenes just made me laugh, rather than feel the slightest bit aroused. I think it's more for people who have never read erotica before.. which is kind of ironic since it (attempts) to deal with BDSM. I also hated Twilight and the parasitic relationship between Edward/Bella, so I don't think I'd care for the romance in Fifty Shades either.

I read all three. I barely made it through the last one, but I wanted to finish it (i have a hard time quitting anything, even really really really crappily written books!).

The writing was terrible. The storyline was not good. I kind of understood that before I started reading them, but it was worse than expected.

I made the mistake of taking it with me to the pool in our condo development the one day. Bad idea. Had a flock of three middle aged women attack me, asking me to join their book club, as they were reading the trilogy as their books of the month. No thanks, Betty, Martha, and Sherry. I'll pass. :raging:

It is really one of thoes series that you either hate or love it. Sort of like Twilight and Harry Potter, people raved about how great those books are but to me they were horrible. Of course I only read the first chapter of Twilight and a few in Harry Potter. If you liked the first book you will love the second.

I have started reading some of Maya Bank's books from her "Sweet" series and some of them are just straight up erotica with not much love story. To me I prefer there to be some love story to it. Megan Hart makes some decent books, but hers are more love story and less kinky sex.

I also read the Sylvia Day "Bared to You" which is basically the exact same as 50 Shades (the second book comes out in Oct.) and didn't like it at all because it was too rushed in my opinion where as 50 Shades draws the story out.
