I dunno, both Ginette and Elle have demonstrated being super codependent on each other. I’d think if Ginette wanted to raise her daughter as autonomous Elle wouldn’t constantly be hitting Ginette up for monetary and emotional support when things go awry.PhoebeTallulah wrote:Sat Apr 11, 2020 5:03 pmThe whole Ginette/Elle dynamic makes me think of a couple of friends who parent their kids with autonomy above all else. Which is fine, but in my opinion there are times when parents need to call their kids out for their behavior and not just “let them figure out the natural consequences”. I wonder if this is Ginettes way? I also grew up with lots of friends who had European backgrounds, and they wouldn’t get away with treating their mom the way Elle treats Ginette.
I just think Elle is hopelessly spoiled and Ginette devoted all her energy and attention towards her daughter, as Ginette probably felt very alone as a single parent. We can only guess what was going on in Ginette’s mind, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ginette had enormous guilt choosing a deadbeat dad for Elle and just wanted to provide everything she could for her daughter, hardly ever punishing her and letting Elle do whatever she wanted.
